KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, a public investment fund (PIF) owned master developer of the King Salman Gate development in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
In a statement today, the urban property and infrastructure developer said that under the MoU, both parties will explore various collaboration structures.
It said this includes joint ventures on selected parcels, direct land acquisitions by MRCB or equity participation in RUA-sponsored investment platforms, and other mutually agreed development models for some of the land parcels contained within the development.
“As a government-linked company (GLC) with a proven track record as a nation builder, MRCB is well-placed to contribute world-class development expertise to one of the most meaningful destinations for the global Muslim community, performing Umrah and Hajj,” it said.
The company said the project represents one of the most visionary mixed-use destinations in Makkah and is located adjacent to AlMasjid AlHaram.
It said King Salman Gate spans approximately 12 million square metres (129.17 million square feet) of gross floor area and is designed as a modern, pedestrian-friendly destination to enhance the pilgrim experience, with capacity for about 900,000 indoor and outdoor praying spaces.
MCRB group managing director Datuk Imran Salim said Makkah holds a special place in the hearts of all Muslims, and it is an honour for MRCB to support the development of a site of such spiritual and global significance.
“Our experience in transit-oriented developments and integrated urban regeneration projects places us in a strong position to complement RUA AlHaram AlMakki’s vision for King Salman Gate, and we look forward to contributing our expertise while deepening Malaysia-Saudi development ties,” he added.
