MRT3 now costs RM50.1 bil: Finance Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR – The Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT3) project is now estimated to cost RM50.2 billion, the Finance Ministry said in a parliamentary written reply.

In March, the project’s cost was reported to be around RM31 billion, according to Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong and MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim.

The ministry gave the figure in reply to Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai-PH) who asked for a detailed cost breakdown of the project.

The 51km line with 31 stations will cost RM34.3 billion for construction, RM8.4 billion for land acquisition, RM5.6 billion for project management, and RM1.9 billion to cover “other costs”, the ministry said in its breakdown.

“However, the total cost of the project will be finalised after the process of open tender is completed,” it added.

Of its 31 stations, ten will be interchange stations with other existing mass transit rail lines in the Klang Valley. – The Vibes, August 2, 2022
