Kota Kinabalu: Marmaz Sipitang Oil and Gas Sdn Bhd (MSOG) has signed five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with CIDB Technologies to train and upskill Sabahan workers for the oil and gas industry amid a shortage of skilled local talent.

The collaboration aims to address the shortage of specialised workers while creating pathways for Sabah youths to secure higher-paying jobs and reduce reliance on foreign labour.

Marmaz Group Holding Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Marajoh Unding said many locals remain unaware of opportunities in the sector despite strong demand and growth prospects in the state.

MSOG Academy Director Mohd Azman Sahari said there is a critical shortage of welders, particularly in pipeline and aluminium work, with a new training module being developed to take participants from zero experience to industry-ready.

He added the proposed training centre will be located at the Sabah Trade Centre after renovations, with additional support from CIDB facilities in Kayu Madang, Telipok.
