New York-based investment firm MSP Sports Capital is still looking to buy a stake in Everton.
MSP has been reportedly in talks with Everton's owner Farhad Moshiri for weeks.
Now the Liverpool Echo states that Moshiri wants to sell part of his 94 percent shareholding in the club.
Moshiri is hoping that selling the shares can bring in funds that can be used by Everton.
The Merseyside club are in serious financial trouble, especially if they are relegated.
MSP, a firm run by US billionaire Jahm Najafi, had executives at Goodison Park to watch Everton in January.
