Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance party (Muda) today apologised after two of its members had body-shamed Bukit Gasing incumbent Rajiv Rishyakaran on social media.

Muda deputy president Amira Aisya said remarks made by its members, Thinesh Raj and its Bukit Gasing candidate VKK Raja against Rajiv, do not reflect the party’s beliefs and values.

“On behalf of Parti Muda, I would like to make a public apology to Rajiv for the remarks made by some of our members. It doesn’t reflect MUDA’s beliefs and ideals. This doesn’t reflect the true meaning of #politikbaru that MUDA champions,” she said.

Amira on her Twitter account said that most of the members who embrace new politics were not happy with the remarks and a disciplinary report has been made against the two members.

Raja, in a deleted tweet, had made thinly-veiled comments towards Rajiv saying it was important to be fit and healthy, even when young.

He later apologised and said he deleted the earlier tweet saying it was insensitive and wrong.

He also said he had raised the matter with Muda’s disciplinary board and would leave it to the party leadership to decide.

In a deleted tweet, Thinesh had also made body shaming tweets towards Rajiv and also deleted his tweet and apologised.

“I would like to sincerely apologise for the profanity used and body-shaming you in my tweet.

“I have taken it down as it was meant to be an example of what I would have said in a body-shaming context. My sincere apology," he said.

Bukit Gasing will see a three-cornered fight between Rajiv, Raja and Perikatan Nasional’s Nallan Dhanabalan.
