Muhyiddin acquitted of four RM200m Jana Wibawa charges

FORMER prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was today discharged and acquitted by the High Court here of four charges involving RM200 million linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.

High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin allowed the prosecution’s application to discontinue one charge of using his position to obtain RM200 million in bribes and three money laundering charges involving the same amount.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Ahmad Akram Gharib made the application under Section 254(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“Accordingly, the court discharges and acquits the accused of the four charges,” Noor Ruwena said.

Muhyiddin, however, still faces three charges of using his position to obtain RM25.3 million in bribes for Bersatu from three companies — Nepturis Sdn Bhd, Mamfor Sdn Bhd and KCJ Engineering Sdn Bhd — as well as businessman Azman Yusoff.

The charges are also linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.

The 79-year-old Pagoh MP was initially accused of using his position as prime minister and Bersatu president to obtain RM200 million in bribes for the party from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd.

The alleged offence took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Perdana Putra building, Putrajaya, between March 1, 2020 and Aug 20, 2021.

The charge was framed under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term and a fine of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Muhyiddin also faced three charges of receiving proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to RM200 million from Bukhary Equity.

The money was allegedly deposited into Bersatu’s AmBank and CIMB Bank accounts in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur between February 2021 and July 2022. - September 14, 2026
