FORMER prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has deposited RM1.35 million in defamation damages to former finance minister Lim Guan Eng pending appeal.
Lim’s lawyer Guok Ngek Seong said the Pagoh MP paid the balance of RM1 million into his firm’s client account yesterday, ahead of the Jan 27 deadline.
He said the first transfer of RM400,000 was paid last December.
The defendant has also paid RM50,000 in costs to the plaintiff in connection with a defamation suit over Yayasan Albukhary’s tax-exempt status.
Muhyiddin obtained a conditional stay of the judgment on Dec 16. The stay required him to pay RM400,000 by Dec 31 and RM1 million by Jan 27.
Muhyiddin has filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal against both liability and quantum. - January 24, 2025
