KOTA KINABALU: The president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, remained tight-lipped regarding the potential collaboration between Bersatu and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the upcoming state elections.
"We will need to conduct our own evaluation, weighing the pros and cons and other considerations. When the time comes, we will make a decision," he stated following the Sabah Bersatu Convention held here on Sunday (May 5).
When asked if this indicated the possibility of a Bersatu-GRS alliance, Muhyiddin clarified that he did not confirm nor deny it.
Nonetheless, Muhyiddin confirmed that Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional would be participating in the Sabah state elections. He refrained from disclosing seat allocations but mentioned that Bersatu had identified its candidates and targeted seats.
Regarding the six Bersatu MPs who declared their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Muhyiddin assured that action would be taken promptly, with party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin overseeing the matter.
On March 2, the party adopted a resolution during an extraordinary general meeting to amend Article 10 of the Bersatu constitution, allowing the expulsion of rogue elected representatives from the party.
The six MPs are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abu Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
During the convention, Muhyiddin highlighted the government's failure to address crucial issues such as the cost of living, education, poverty, and infrastructure.
He also emphasized Bersatu's ongoing nationwide restructuring efforts, aiming to attract more sincere and dedicated members.
The ruling state coalition, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), consists of seven local parties: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah STAR, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), USNO, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat).
