MUHYIDDIN OVERSTAYING HIS WELCOME

BY LOKMAN ADAM

This week was nothing short of a political disaster for Bersatu. One story after another exposed how badly the party is collapsing from within. The cracks are no longer hidden. They are wide open for the public to see.

Muhyiddin Yassin now sounds less like a coalition leader and more like a man refusing to accept reality. Complaining that Bersatu was “kept in the dark” over Perikatan Nasional meetings only proves one thing. Bersatu is no longer calling the shots inside PN.

For years, Bersatu acted like the big brother in the coalition despite surviving largely because PAS carried the grassroots machinery. Now the tables have turned. PAS has clearly moved on, while Muhyiddin still behaves as though he remains chairman with unquestioned authority.

The biggest joke came when Muhyiddin insisted Bersatu could still use the PN logo in upcoming state elections. At the same time, Bersatu argued that major coalition decisions require consensus. So where was this so-called consensus before Muhyiddin announced Bersatu would use the logo?

Even PAS leaders openly called his statement premature and reckless. PAS vice-president Amar Abdullah practically told Bersatu to leave PN if they intend to fight PAS. That is not a small disagreement. That is open humiliation in public.

What makes matters worse is that criticism is now coming from within Bersatu itself. Wan Ahmad Fayhsal openly admitted the party is standing at the edge of destruction because Muhyiddin failed to handle the conflict with PAS rationally.

That statement alone speaks volumes. When your own people publicly question your judgment, the leadership problem is no longer speculation. It becomes confirmation. Muhyiddin’s stubborn refusal to step aside is dragging Bersatu deeper into political irrelevance.

Then came the final blow. PN dropped Azmin Ali and Radzi Jidin from key coalition posts while PAS leaders tightened their grip on the coalition structure. The message could not be clearer. PAS is restructuring PN without Bersatu dominance.

Bersatu’s biggest problem today is simple. Its leaders still think they are politically indispensable when the coalition has already started operating without them. Muhyiddin overstayed his welcome, refused to read the room, and now Bersatu is paying the price for that arrogance.
