TAWAU: The Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) continues to strengthen its role in community development and social welfare, providing assistance for education, fire and flood victims across Sabah.
State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said Muis, through its Zakat and Fitrah Division, also known as the Pusat Zakat Sabah, allocated over RM20 million this year for education scholarships alone.
“Muis, together with the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains), consistently channels aid to asnaf recipients, particularly in education,” he said after presenting Muis contributions to fire victims at Kampung Hidayat, Batu 4 Jalan Apas on Tuesday.
Fire victims typically receive RM1,000 cash assistance and food baskets from Muis. The council also plans to help affected schoolchildren through the Tabung Pendidikan Negeri Sabah, established by the Chief Minister, to purchase school necessities including books and uniforms.
“We provided aid to over 20 students affected by another fire incident in this district earlier this year and we will continue such initiatives,” Arifin said.
He urged residents in densely populated areas, especially squatter and water village settlements, to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines from local leaders to prevent fires.
Ten household heads representing 66 fire victims at Kampung Hidayat received Muis welfare contributions and humanitarian aid from parliamentary and state assembly representatives.
