“This area is estimated to have around 30,000 residents, most of whom are Muslims, so there is a great need for a central, large space to carry out religious programs such as Maal Hijrah, Awal Muharram, and others.
“Previously, we only had small mosques and suraus scattered across the area, far apart from one another.
“In terms of capacity, this multi-storey mosque can accommodate around 800 worshippers at a time and is fully equipped with air conditioning in all prayer rooms, a large open area, and a spacious ablution room that can serve 12 people at once, with separate facilities for men and women, including ample bathroom space.
“Looking ahead, we have discussed setting up a Ramadan bazaar in the mosque’s vicinity during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
“Given the large and strategically located area, we believe it will be a popular spot for visitors,” he said.
The ceremony also saw Tun Juhar greet 85 asnaf and 15 elderly and disabled asnaf from the Tungku District, who received donations from Yayasan Nur Jauhar (YNJ), Baitulmal, and the Zakat and Fitrah Division of MUIS.
Also in attendance were Tun Juhar’s wife, Toh Puan Norlidah R.M. Jasni; Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Malaysia and Member of Parliament for Lahad Datu, Datuk Mohammad Yusuf Apdal; Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Ruslan Muharam; Tungku State Assemblyman, Assafal @ Samsul Kamal Commander of the Alliance; Deputy President of MUIS, Datuk Malai Ali Malai Ahmad; Sabah State Baitulmal Chairman, Datuk Dr. Omar Raisul As-Salam Syah Sulaiman Omar; and Lahad Datu District Officer, Firuz Idzualdeen @ Benetty Mohd.
