KUALA LUMPUR — Pertubuhan Gabungan Mukmin Nasional (Mukmin) has secured more than RM7 million in scholarship commitments through partnerships with six higher education institutions, reinforcing its position as the largest collective voice for Malaysia’s Indian Muslim community.
At its inaugural Executive Committee (Exco) meeting, Mukmin announced over 350 scholarship opportunities across universities and TVET pathways, aimed at expanding access to quality education and skills development nationwide.
President Datuk Wira Shahul Dawood said the initiative reflects the organisation’s mission to empower the next generation.
“Mukmin was established on a simple belief, that our community is strongest when we work together. No single organisation can address every challenge. But together, we can create opportunities, mobilise resources and build a stronger future for all,” he said.
The scholarships are part of Mukmin’s five strategic pillars — Education & Talent Development, Entrepreneurship & Economic Empowerment, Leadership & Representation, Social Welfare & Community Wellbeing, and Faith, Identity & Ukhuwah.
“Our aspiration is not merely to be another organisation. We aspire to be a trusted national ecosystem for community transformation, one that connects people, organisations and opportunities to create lasting impact,” Shahul added.
Mukmin also introduced the Adopt A Graduate Programme, a community-driven initiative that mobilises businesses and professionals to support students through tuition sponsorships, mentorship, industry exposure and career pathways. The programme aims to remove financial barriers and create a sustainable ecosystem for future talent.
The organisation is set for an official national launch in August 2026, in conjunction with Malaysia’s Independence Month, expected to attract more than 2,500 participants including policymakers, educators, entrepreneurs and international community leaders.
The Exco endorsed strategic priorities for 2026–2027, focusing on growth, youth engagement, programme impact and long-term sustainability.
“We are building more than an organisation. We are building a movement — one that empowers communities, nurtures future leaders, creates opportunities and strengthens the collective voice of the Indian Muslim community,” Shahul stressed.
He added that Mukmin’s long-term goal is to become the trusted platform for collaboration and a constructive voice on issues affecting the Indian Muslim community.
“The future of our community depends on our willingness to work together. We welcome organisations, professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, youth leaders and changemakers to join us in shaping the next chapter of our collective journey,” he added.
With its growing national network of affiliates and partners, Mukmin continues to champion education, entrepreneurship, social welfare and sustainable socio-economic progress for generations to come. - June 23, 2026
