To review security arrangements for the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, SSP of Kathua Mohita Sharma conducted a comprehensive joint security review-cum-coordination meeting with other agencies on Monday.
The meeting was attended by senior police, Army and CRPF officials based in the district. SSP Kathua gave a detailed presentation on security arrangements, surveillance measures, convoy management, Quick Reaction Team (QRT) deployment and emergency response plans for the pilgrimage.
Addressing the officials, Mohita Sharma stressed maximum alertness, strict adherence to security protocols and pilgrim-friendly conduct during Amarnath Yatra.
She further directed the supervisory officers to strengthen security arrangements through regular inspection of community kitchens, lodgement centres and other yatra-related facilities, while maintaining close surveillance over suspicious movements and anti-national elements.
Officials present at the meeting were also instructed to intensify intelligence generation, promptly share actionable inputs and maintain close coordination with intelligence agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a robust and proactive security grid.
Thereafter, directions were issued to ensure security along the border national highway and railway track with special focus on round-the-clock domination, ‘naka’ points and area-domination patrols. Emphasis was also laid on completing census and tenant verification drives along NH, at hotels/dhabas and among factory workers to rule out the presence of any anti-national elements in the vicinity of the yatra route.
SSP Kathua emphasised strengthening surveillance and response capabilities by intensifying drone-based monitoring, installation of X-ray machines and deploying dog squads for anti-sabotage checks at vital installations, including Base Camp Lakhanpur and yatra locations and ensuring the operational readiness of QRTs.
She also stressed seamless inter-agency coordination among police, central armed police forces (CAPFs), civil administration, traffic police, health services and other departments with a focus on prompt information sharing, joint preparedness and effective response to any exigency.
“Officials were further directed to ensure effective management and security of yatra mini-convoys and to enhance CCTV coverage at all important yatra locations with dedicated 24×7 monitoring. SSP Kathua reiterated the need for high operational readiness and coordinated efforts to ensure the safe, smooth and successful conduct of the pilgrimage,” a spokesperson said.
