A series of criminal incidents ranging from cyber fraud and theft to assault and illegal mining were reported across Kapurthala district on Thursday, prompting intensified action by the district police. The cases, registered at various police stations, highlighted growing concerns over cybercrime, property theft and unlawful activities affecting public safety and law and order in the region.

In one report, the Cyber Crime Police Station, Kapurthala, registered a case under fraud-related Sections after receiving information regarding an organised gang allegedly cheating innocent people through online chats and deceptive tactics. During the preliminary investigation, police traced a mobile number allegedly linked to the fraudulent activities to a resident of Bhiwadi in Rajasthan. Officials stated that further technical investigation is underway and action will be initiated according to the findings of the probe.

Another major breakthrough was reported by Sadar Kapurthala Police in a battery theft case. Acting on the complaint of a local transporter, police arrested two accused allegedly involved in the theft of batteries from parked trucks near an RCF parking area. According to the complainant, batteries belonging to several heavy vehicles had been stolen over the past week. Police said the accused were identified after local inquiries and a case was formally registered.

Meanwhile, Phagwara police also registered a theft case after electronic goods were allegedly stolen from a service centre located in the Kheera Wali area. The complainant informed police that unidentified persons broke into the premises and fled with valuable equipment. Investigation into the incident has been initiated and efforts are underway to identify the culprits.

In Rawalpindi Police Station area, a case was registered following allegations of attempted illegal occupation of a house and theft of household items, including submersible motors and ceiling fans. Police stated that the accused has been booked after an inquiry found substance in the complaint filed by the victim.

Another violent incident was reported from Jagpalpur village where a dispute between family members allegedly turned into a physical assault. The complainant alleged that he was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon during an altercation over land-related issues. The injured person was admitted to Civil Hospital, Phagwara, where he is undergoing treatment. Police have registered a case against the accused.

The district police also continued its anti-drug drive. Sadar Phagwara Police arrested a man allegedly consuming intoxicating substances near a roadside area. Police recovered a lighter, currency note and silver foil commonly used for drug consumption from the accused. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered and further investigation is in progress.

In another important action, Kabirpur Police and Mining Department officials jointly conducted a raid against illegal mining activities near Sardullapur village.
