
Panic gripped Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, on Monday after the school received an email claiming it would be blown up.
According to information, the email was received at 8:48 am. At that time, the principal was on a round and the email went unnoticed. It was later read around 9:15 am, following which the school authorities immediately decided to evacuate the premises.
A message was sent to parents asking them to pick up their children as soon as possible. By before 11 am, all the children were safely sent home. Sister Veena also informed the Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner about the incident.
Two more schools, including DAV School at Sarabha Nagar Extension and Bal Bharti School, also received similar emails.
The school premises saw panic among students and parents after news of the threat spread. Examinations were under way at the time of the incident.
Apart from this, Halwara airport, which became operational on May 15, also received the threat stating that its parking area would be bombed.
Although airport authorities refused to comment, saying the matter was highly confidential, the threat created panic since morning after the emails were received. The administration and police remained on alert throughout the day.
Police have started an investigation into the matter.
