Several lorries and cars burst into flames after a crash on the North-South Expressway near Kulai, causing severe congestion and lane closures.

PETALING JAYA: Several vehicles, including lorries and cars, were engulfed in flames following a crash at Km31.8 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound between Sedenak and Kulai on Monday morning.

Images and video clips shared on social media showed a number of heavy vehicles and passenger cars ablaze, with thick plumes of black smoke rising high into the sky.

The collision also left the vehicles involved badly damaged.

In an initial traffic update, PLUS Malaysia Berhad said the accident occurred shortly after the Kulai Rest and Service Area (R&R) on the southbound carriageway.

“The accident has resulted in heavy traffic congestion in both directions. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and follow instructions issued by authorities at the scene,” the highway concessionaire said in a statement.

Traffic in the affected area was reported to have come to a complete standstill as emergency personnel worked to contain the situation and clear the roadway.

All southbound lanes remained fully closed at the time of reporting.
