
SANDAKAN: A mother and her 13 children are now left with nothing after their stilt house at Bridge 6, Kampung Air in Karamunting, near here, collapsed on Monday night.
According to Karamunting Assemblyman, Datuk George Hiew, the victim, Maili Lait, who is a housewife, was at home with her children at the time of the incident at about 8pm.
Maili’s husband, Herman Modjahirin, is working in Kuala Lumpur.
“I understand that Maili took her children out of the house when she heard cracking sound.

George said the family had spent the night at a relative’s house nearby on the night of the incident, and have since been seeking shelter at the village hall.
Staff from the Sandakan Municipal Council and Sandakan Welfare Department also visited the victim’s family, in addition to finding solutions.
George who was in Kota Kinabalu at the time of the incident said he had sent his Karamunting Task Force Team to visit the family the next morning.
“I have delivered food aid to this family because they had nothing after the disaster. After arriving in Sandakan, I also went to visit them to give them a little donation.
“The victim is a difficult family. I will find a way to help the victim’s family from all angles so that they continue to be strong in the face of this incident,” he said.
