
Kota Kinabalu: The case of a contractor and his former reality TV cooking show finalist wife charged with the murder of their maid in Penampang last year, has been transferred to the High Court.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie made the ordered on the case of Mohammad Ambree Yunos @ Unos and Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen Mohd Sulong following an application by the prosecution for their case to be transferred to the High Court.
Deputy Prosecutor Nurul Shafeerah Mad Iskim informed the court that a sanction to transfer the case to the High Court for the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code had been obtained.
Ambree, 40, and engineer Etiqah, 33, were jointly accused with the murder of Nur Afiyah Daeng Damin, 28, between Dec 10 and 13, 2021 at a unit in Amber Tower, Lido Avenue, Jalan Lintas Lido, Penampang.
They were firstly charged on Dec 29, 2021 under Section 302 of the Penal Code and read together with 34 of the same Code carries the death sentence, on conviction and was ordered to be remanded as the charge against them is a non-bailable offence.
However, Etiqah applied for bail and was on April 26, this year granted bail by the Court of Appeal.
Ambree was also granted bail on Oct 20 by the High Court following his application for bail.
Stephanie ordered their bail to be extended.
Ambree was represented by counsel Ram Singh, Kimberly Ye and Chen Wen Jye while Etiqah was defended by Datuk Seri Rakhbir Singh.
In another case, a woman was fined RM3,500 or 10 months jail for assisting in hiding someone else’s RM,6000 in cash.
Norah Zizunahrahman pleaded guilty to hiding the money belonging to Md Ewanazri Rosli which was transferred into her CIMB bank account.
The offence committed between Dec 21, 2021 and Dec 22, the same year in a house at Block C of the Royal Malaysian Navy Sepanggar base.
The charge under Section 424 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.
Unrepresented, Norah requested leniency.
