Murder victim found in suitcase identified as missing insurance agent

POLICE have identified the man whose body was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase behind the Ampang Jajar flats on Jalan Permatang Pauh, Penang, with his throat slashed and hands bound.

The victim has been named as Lee Boon Han, a 31-year-old former insurance agent who had been reported missing since 8 October after travelling to Perlis for work and subsequently becoming unreachable.

His father, a 69-year-old trader, lodged a police report after losing contact with his son. He arrived at the Seberang Jaya Hospital’s forensic unit around 9am on Friday to formally identify the body.

The elderly man was visibly distraught as he exited the mortuary, nodding solemnly to confirm the deceased was indeed his son. He declined to speak to the media and requested that his family’s privacy be respected during the identification process.

On Thursday, police were alerted to the gruesome discovery of a man’s body inside a suitcase found behind the flat complex. A cleaner carrying out routine duties came across the suitcase around 1.43pm and contacted the authorities.

Initial investigations revealed the victim had suffered a deep neck wound, his hands were bound, and his head had been covered with plastic.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive and identify those responsible.

No official statement has yet been released regarding suspects or potential leads in the case. - October10, 2025
