A 54-YEAR-OLD music teacher has been arrested in Kuala Nerus on suspicion of molesting four primary school pupils aged between seven and ten.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the suspect was detained after police received reports from all four children, who alleged that the indecent acts occurred between 12pm and 12.30pm on 13 November at their school.

“Based on the information received, all the victims stated that they were molested by the music teacher,” Azli said in a statement on Tuesday. The man was arrested at his home on Monday and has been remanded for five days.

The case is being investigated under Sections 14(a) and 14(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

In a separate case, police have also arrested a 23-year-old trader for allegedly committing sexual acts against his eight-year-old niece.

“Following the report received, the suspect, who is the victim’s uncle, is believed to have groped the child’s chest and buttocks,” Azli said. The man was detained on 15 November and remanded for five days under Section 14(a) of the same Act.

Azli said both investigations are now in their final stages before being referred to prosecutors.

He urged parents to heighten supervision of their children’s movements and provide early education on sexual harassment to help prevent them from becoming victims. - November 18, 2025
