KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Kamal has called on Muslims in the country not to be hasty and paranoid over matters deemed challenging to Islam.
In a post on X last night, he said, "We as Muslims should not be so paranoid as to think that everything is a challenge to Islam.
"Our action should be guided by knowledge, not impulsive emotions."
His response followed the recent controversy over a shoe logo design, which allegedly bore an inscription resembling the word “Allah”.

Wan Fayhsal, who was the deputy national unity minister during the previous Perikatan Nasional-led federal government, said the reaction from people regarding the shoe logo is becoming ridiculous and has made Islam “look very petty and bad”.
The Machang MP said that in the case of socks bearing the word “Allah” sold at KK Mart outlets, the offence was clear.
However, in the case of fashion company Vern’s shoes, there was nothing against Islamic law, Wan Fayhsal said.
He also called on the media to stop reporting such "nonsense news” for the sake of viral readership.
“Islam is not the religion for stupid people,” he said.
Vern’s Holding Sdn Bhd has apologised over the logo that appears on the soles of some of the shoes sold by the company that allegedly resembles the word “Allah” in Arabic.
In a media statement on Sunday, the company clarified that it had absolutely no intention of coming out with a logo that sought to belittle or insult any religion or belief. – April 8, 2024
