KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR Chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud praised the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government for delivering Sabah’s strongest budget yet, citing record state revenue of over RM6 billion under the GRS–Pakatan Harapan administration.
Speaking at a Christmas gathering hosted by appointed assemblywoman and Kota Kinabalu PKR Chief Grace Lee Li Mei, Mustapha said improved revenue and political stability were key achievements, but stressed that funds must translate into better infrastructure and services for the people.
He urged faster negotiations with the federal government on Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement, proposing a special trust fund to address chronic road, water and electricity problems, with spending overseen by the State Legislative Assembly.
On politics, Mustapha expressed confidence in Grace Lee’s role in rebuilding PKR’s support among Chinese voters, saying Sabah worked best under a model where local parties led while national parties provided strong links to Putrajaya.
He also said he was ready to serve in any capacity in the event of a federal cabinet reshuffle, emphasising service over position.
