Mustapha Sakmud orders strict action following the arrest of his officer

DEPUTY Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, has stressed the ministry's commitment to the principles of transparent and integrity-based governance following the recent arrest of an officer in his office by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

In a media statement, he said the ministry had taken immediate steps to ensure that the integrity of the public service was maintained.

"Among the immediate actions that have been implemented is to order the officer involved to resign immediately from the Deputy Minister's office, in addition to the Ministry of Higher Education's (KPT) Integrity Unit commencing an internal investigation towards disciplinary action in accordance with service regulations," he said.

He said no one was exempted from the legal and governance process and any further action would be decided based on the results of the Integrity Unit's investigation and cooperation with the authorities.

As Deputy Minister, Mustapha Sakmud expressed respect for the ongoing investigation process and reminded all parties not to speculate that could affect the integrity of the investigation.

"I have taken note of the report regarding the recent arrest of one of the officers serving in my office by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

“The Ministry has taken several firm actions to ensure that the integrity of the public service continues to be preserved.

“As Deputy Minister, I respect the ongoing investigation process and call on all parties not to speculate that could undermine the integrity of the investigation,” he said. - December 2, 2025
