KUALA LUMPUR — The suspects linked to the murder of university student Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara in Cyberjaya are expected to be charged at the Sepang Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman confirmed to Scoop that the suspects, aged between 19 and 20, will face charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
“We’ve done our part by providing all the necessary evidence to the Deputy Public Prosecutors, and we have received confirmation from the Public Prosecutor to proceed with the charges tomorrow,” he said.
He added that more details, including the suspects’ alleged roles and the motive behind the crime, will be revealed during court proceedings.
Previously, the remand of three individuals linked to the murder was extended for another seven days until July 10.
The extension was granted on July 3 by Magistrate Khairatul Animah Jelani, following the expiry of their initial remand order on June 27.
The three suspects — a man and two women — were arrested between June 26 and 27 in Johor Bahru and Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan.
All are known to the victim, a 20-year-old University of Cyberjaya student who was found dead in her condominium unit at Mutiara Ville on the morning of June 24.
A post-mortem revealed that Maniishapriet died of blunt force trauma to the head. Police confirmed there were no signs of forced entry or sexual assault.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan previously disclosed that the main suspect — an unemployed man in his 20s — entered the apartment using a key and access card given to him by his girlfriend, who was also the victim’s housemate.
At the time of the incident, the other housemates were away for the holidays, while the victim had stayed behind to sit for her final exam.
The suspect allegedly assaulted and killed the victim before stealing her mobile phone, laptop, and ATM card.
He later withdrew RM200 from her account, reportedly with his girlfriend by his side.
Several of the stolen items have since been recovered.
Police also confirmed the arrest of a fourth suspect — a man who knew the victim but lived in another block. He remains in custody.
All four individuals are under investigation for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. – July 7, 2025
