Weddings are joyful occasions and many guests like to give red packets as blessings to the newlyweds.

Recently, a post has gone viral in the Facebook group, KL Blow Water Station where a Malaysian complained about how a price per pax was stipulated on the wedding invitation.

“If I bring my wife and 2 children, I will have to pay RM1,000!”

According to the post, the netizen had received a wedding invitation for a wedding that will take place in Rawang.

As he opened the envelope, an empty red packet came out. A wall of text was printed on the red packet which states that it will cost RM250 for a person to attend the wedding.

Now, guests can also do online banking and e-wallet transfers for the amount if they do not want to use cash. If they do that, then they will have to print out the receipt and put it into the red packet for “confirmation by the reception staff.”

The netizen who posted the photo sarcastically said in the captions that this was a “good move.”

“If I give less then people will be disatisfied, if I give more then I will be broke. There is no coercion here, only come if you can afford it. I hope the host will give me a receipt after I’ve paid.”

Many other netizens had a lot to say on this matter.

“You’re inviting people to a wedding dinner, if they don’t give a red packet to you, it should be fine as you’re inviting them for their presence. If you can’t afford to host a wedding dinner then don’t do it, it is clear that they are trying to make money out of this,” said a netizen.

Other Facebook users decided to take the way of sarcasm.
