Princess has left home!
Yes, you read that right.
Every parent has that one child who colours outside the lines. In our house, that’s her.
She’s a little different from her siblings.
Always has been. While the rest of the family followed the rulebook, she wrote her own.
She’s the one that told me, “LinkedIn is for old people!”
Cheeky. Bold. Unapologetically herself. That’s my Princess for you.
I shared her photos with Chinese and Indian friends before on social media. She chosed friends for their attitudes, not anything else.
No labels, no boxes. Just good people, regardless of where they come from. If more of us thought like her, Malaysia would be a much warmer place.
Unlike her elder siblings who scored straight As and studied at Malaysia’s best universities, our Princess didn’t achieve any of those.
Different report cards. Different paths. That’s just how it is.
So academically, she’s out, but not totally.
Because here’s the thing about Princess; she was never going to fit the mould, and honestly, why should she?
We found a local college that offers TESL. Well, her English is not good either, especially in reading and speaking.
I know, I know. TESL and weak English don’t exactly sound like a match made in heaven. Everyone raised an eyebrow when we told them.
But I have trust in her, and her listening, speaking and reasoning ability are topnotch.
She listens better than most adults I know. She reasons her way through problems that would stump people twice her age. Grades never told the full story of who she is.
So, I share this video when she said bye bye…..the college is just 30km away but it was as if she was 3,000km.
We stood there, waving, watching her walk into her next chapter. Nervous, excited, finally free to be exactly who she is.
Go get ‘em, Princess. The world’s about to meet the real you.
