
Police arrest a Myanmar national for murdering a female compatriot at a workers’ hostel, with the motive linked to an unpaid debt and threats
NILAI: Police have arrested a 42-year-old Myanmar national in connection with the murder of a female compatriot at a foreign workers’ hostel.
The suspect was detained early today to assist investigations into the incident which occurred last Monday.
Nilai police chief Supt Johari Yahya said the suspect admitted to slitting the victim’s throat with a knife.
The motive is believed to be linked to an RM10,000 debt the suspect owed to the victim.
Johari stated the victim had allegedly threatened to spread photos of the suspect and his girlfriend on Facebook if he failed to pay RM5,500 on the day of the incident.
Police also seized several items including a black shirt, slippers, two mobile phones and the suspected knife.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The suspect has been remanded to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Police earlier found the victim, believed to be in her 30s, unconscious and covered in blood on a hostel staircase.
They had received a report about the incident at approximately 11.21 pm on Monday.
