Myanmar official breaks down at UN as he urges world to ‘end our suffering’ under junta

Myanmar’s representative to the United Nations made an emotional appeal for the international community to end its silence over the country’s suffering on Wednesday (28 October).

Kyar Moe Tun, who was appointed by the previous democratically-elected government prior to the country’s 2021 coup, said the world had “failed the people of Myanmar again and again” and urged member states to stand in solidarity with its people.

During his speech, the ambassador held up a scarf created by revolutionary community Theatre 21, bearing the names and ages of those killed in the struggle for freedom against the junta that now rules the country.

He said reading the names of the “fallen heroes and innocent civilians” broke his heart, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing crisis.
