MyDigital ID Sdn Bhd (MyIDSB) has reiterated its role as Malaysia’s official national digital identity platform, underscoring the government’s commitment to delivering a secure, sovereign, and sustainable digital identity system for all Malaysians.
In a joint statement with the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), the company responded to recent media coverage surrounding private digital ID initiatives — including NexG’s “MyNasional” platform — by clarifying its position as the country’s sole Digital Public Infrastructure provider for digital identity under the purview of the Prime Minister’s Department and overseen by NACSA under the National Security Council.
“MyDigital ID (MyDID) is Malaysia’s official national digital identity infrastructure,” the statement said. “MyIDSB is a wholly owned subsidiary of MOF Inc., reflecting the government’s full commitment to ensuring MyDID serves as the single, secure, and authoritative digital identity for Malaysians, enabling convenient and trusted access to both government and private sector services.”
While acknowledging and welcoming private sector interest in the digital identity space, MyIDSB and NACSA stressed that national-scale initiatives must conform to existing national strategies, including strict adherence to standards of security, interoperability, sovereignty and good governance.
“Any initiative claiming to operate at a national scale must align with the national strategy, ensure interoperability, and comply with governance, security and sovereignty requirements,” Bernama reported the statement saying.
MyDID, the agencies emphasised, is not a commercial venture but a neutral, non-profit public infrastructure developed to global trust and resilience standards, including Common Criteria, NIST, and ISO/IEC frameworks. It is intended to prioritise the public good above all else.
“Unlike private initiatives, MyDID is not profit-driven. It is designed as Digital Public Infrastructure, built to serve the rakyat first and foremost, ensuring neutrality, inclusivity, and long-term sustainability.”
MyIDSB added that it would continue engaging with industry players to support the growth of Malaysia’s digital ecosystem, while ensuring that developments remain coherent and complementary — avoiding duplication or public confusion.
The reaffirmation comes as Malaysia advances its broader national digital strategy, where secure digital identity is seen as essential for both national security and inclusive digital economic growth. - September 29, 2025
