As management educator and HRD practitioner, I am aware that MYFutureJobs is Malaysia's national digital employment platform. Last Sunday 17 May, in conjunction with PERKESO Run & Ride 2026 at Dataran Wawasan Putrajaya, I visited the main administrative offices located at its parent company, the Social Security Organization (SOCSO or PERKESO). The uniqueness of the MYFutureJobs portal lies in the individualized recruitment services offered by PERKESO's Employer Key Account support to employers who use the portal. I understand MYFutureJobs portal is powered by an advanced AI technology that matches job vacancies to the right jobseeker based on employers' requirements, namely: Candidate Portal, Employer Portal and Case Management Portal, using European Classification of Skills, Competencies, Qualifications & Occupations (ESCO) that can generate the best results. MYFutureJobs provides the National Labor Infrastructure and serves as a centralized repository for job vacancies, making sure opportunities are visible to the public to prevent talent monopolies. It is bridging the Skills Gap in connecting users directly to upskilling and reskilling training programs designed to prepare the workforce for shifting economic demands. It plays active labor market role by offering career counseling, and those who have faced job losses.

The rapid rise of the gig economy has fundamentally transformed the landscape of job opportunities in Malaysia. According to the MYFutureJobs, over 3 million Malaysians now participate in freelancing, contract roles, or platform-based work. This shift has dramatically reshaped employment by introducing unprecedented flexibility while presenting unique structural challenges. Companies are opting for more short-term project-specific specialist contractors.

Engaging in on-line discussions with my colleague, Yazdi Bankwala, COO Global Sejahtera who is currently in London, I learned about the emergence of micro-entrepreneurs whereby freelancers are leveraging global and regional platforms to build independent businesses, treating their technical skills as direct revenue streams rather than employee functions. Yazdi revealed, “The rise of corporate hiring for data scientists, AI engineers, and HR consultants.”
