KUALA LUMPUR: The Digital Ministry has called upon all government agencies and departments to give their full commitment to strengthening data sharing through the Malaysian Government Central Data Exchange (MyGDX) platform.
This inter-agency data connectivity is a strategic step to drive the nation’s digitalisation agenda and accelerate the transformation of government service delivery.
The launch of the Public Sector Data Digitalisation Policy (PPDSA) and the expansion of MyGDX, scheduled on Feb 10, carries the theme "Digital Automation through technological advancement" (D.A.T.A.). This serves as a primary catalyst in overcoming various bureaucratic pain points for the benefit of every Malaysian.
In a statement this morning, the ministry said the public sector still faces technical challenges that require collective solutions through smart collaboration.
"Under the spirit of the D.A.T.A. theme, data sharing via MyGDX is designed to end the practice of manual data collection and verification from separate, siloed agency systems which currently burdens civil servants," the statement read.
"The previous issue of 'data silos' did not only lead to inconsistent information across agencies but also increased the risk of human error during data matching. Consequently, eligibility checks and application approvals have been time-consuming.
"This reliance on physical documentation has indirectly limited access to real-time data critical for modern management, making it difficult for citizens to track their application status comprehensively."
In light of this, the Digital Ministry urges departmental leadership to translate these challenges into significant opportunities for transformation.
As of early this year, MyGDX has shown promising performance with the involvement of 81 agencies, comprising 51 data providers and 23 data consumers across 49 integrated systems. With over 23 million API transactions recorded, the platform has proven successful in facilitating the sharing of critical data.
This includes civil servant profiles, higher education student information, passport verification, status verification for people with disabilities, and vehicle and licensing information (JPJ).
"Through this smart collaboration, civil servants can shift away from repetitive clerical tasks and data coordination toward efforts that empower high-impact service delivery for the public," the statement read.
The success of the D.A.T.A. theme in driving MyGDX will provide significant benefits to the public. Through the implementation of the 'once-only principle', citizens will no longer be burdened with submitting physical documents repeatedly, as data integration allows information to be shared seamlessly between agencies.
"Government processes will now become faster, more efficient, and more transparent. Transactions can be carried out entirely digitally and remotely, ensuring citizens receive more responsive services with guaranteed personal data protection and high security standards.
"The Digital Ministry remains committed to supporting all government departments during this transition phase through the empowerment of digital autonomous technology. Now is the time for everyone to work together to tear down data bureaucracy walls to build a government that is more efficient, modern, and trusted, in line with the vision to elevate the nation’s digital standing on the global stage," the ministry added.
