Pictures showing official Malaysian documents allegedly found on the battlefield between Ukraine and Russia circulated online, as shared via the X page of @Zlatti_71.
The documents found included the MyKad and a driver’s license of a Malaysian man, which were found after the Russian army invaded the fortress of the Ukrainian army.
The driver’s license belonging to an individual with an address in Perlis has validity until February 2025. Other than the Malaysian documents, passports and identity documents of several individuals from other countries, such as Turkey and Croatia, were also found. According to a report by Air Times, the Russian government has allegedly recruited some Malaysians as foreign mercenaries in the conflict in their country.
At the time of writing (October 30), the status of the owner of the Malaysian documents has yet to be confirmed if he was dead or alive.
However, are the documents valid?
In a statement by PDRM last night (October 29), Inspector-General Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police are still investigating the authenticity of information regarding claims of the discovery of Malaysian identity cards and driving licenses believed to belong to citizens of this country in Levadne, Zaporizhia, Ukraine.
“We are verifying the claims by obtaining detailed information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that at the time being, they are yet to able to confirm the authenticity of the information. Malaysians, on the other hand, are advised to take precautions to ensure their safety while abroad.
