THE National Registration Department (NRD) will introduce a new MyKad, with enhanced security features to prevent forgery of identification documents.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the introduction of the new MyKad was in line with current security needs and technological developments.

According to him, it was the government's responsibility to ensure the integrity of people's identification documents was preserved.

"So, what are the new features of this MyKad? More guaranteed security features to improve the integrity of security documents," he told a press conference after delivering a message to Home Ministry (KDN) officers and agencies.

In addition, he said a new passport with enhanced security features would be introduced starting in the second quarter of this year.

The introduction of the new passport was made after the validity period of the existing passport reached its limit, thus requiring the replacement of security documents.

He stressed that the move was important to maintain the reliability of the Malaysian passport, which is now among the best in the world in terms of visa-free travel. – January 8, 2025
