
Kota Kinabalu: A paperless man was sentenced to 10 months in jail for using someone else’s MyKad as his identification document.
Haiman Syazwan Usin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the MyKad bearing the serial number 060412-12-0231 under the name of
Muhd Syafwan Riduan on the eighth floor of the Centre Point at 4.30 pm on Aug 5.
The court heard from the prosecution that the police detained a suspicious man, who then produced the MyKad when the police screened him.

Haiman then confessed that the MyKad was not his as he found it in a drain near his house and had kept it for a month for his own use.
The prosecution also informed the court that a check with the police IPRS found that there was a missing MyKad report based on the said MyKad serial number.
Unrepresented, Haiman requested leniency and said he found the MyKad at Likas Multipurpose Hall and had used it for a few days.
He kept silent when the court asked whether he had any other documents.
The prosecution applied for an adequate sentence and informed the court that Haiman has no document.
The court ordered Haiman to serve the sentence from the date of arrest and ordered him to be referred to the Immigration Department after that.
Haiman was charged under Section 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulation, which provides for a jail term of up to three years or fine, on conviction.
In another case, a 60-year-old man was jailed three months and fined RM1,000 or three months’ jail for assaulting his wife.
Ting Hing Ton admitted to committing the offence at a unit in Regency Park, Penampang at 2am on May 23, this year.
The court heard from the prosecution that the incident occurred due to a misunderstanding between Ting, who came home in a drunken state, and the complainant.
Ting hit the complainant on her head, neck and body causing her to sustain injuries and bruises.
Counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Ting, applied for a lenient fine on the grounds that he was unemployed and has three children.
Ting was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
