Human skeletal remains were discovered this afternoon in a mangrove forest at Jalan Batu Buaya, Kampung Wai, Kuala Perlis.

Kangar district police chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop reported that his team was alerted by the public at around 4:20 pm regarding the skeleton found in the area. Upon arrival, a thorough inspection was conducted, and the authorities determined that there was nothing suspicious about the scene. ACP Yusharifuddin noted that the skeleton had broken bones in three places, suggesting that the bones might have been washed away by water or moved by animals residing in the forest.

The area where the remains were found is known for its swampy terrain, regularly experiencing high tides from the Sungai Wai, which could contribute to the bones' condition and dispersal. ACP Yusharifuddin emphasized that the initial investigation did not indicate any criminal activity. As a result, the case is being classified as a sudden death pending further examination after the post-mortem is completed.

"The Kuala Perlis station police chief, along with his team, transported the skeletal remains to Tuanku Fauziah Hospital in Kangar for a post-mortem," ACP Yusharifuddin stated in a press release. The police are continuing their investigation to gather more details about the case and to determine the identity and circumstances of the deceased.

This discovery has drawn attention to the often-overlooked mangrove forests in the area, which can be difficult to navigate and are rarely frequented by the public. The police have urged anyone with information about the remains or who might have noticed unusual activity in the area to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The outcome of the post-mortem will provide crucial insights and potentially clarify whether any foul play was involved, though current evidence points towards natural causes. The police remain vigilant and committed to uncovering the full story behind these skeletal remains.
