Mystery white substance on KESAS not snow but lorry soap spill

SHAH ALAM, Sept 4 - Foam that appeared along a 500-metre stretch of the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS) yesterday is believed to have been caused by residue from an earlier soap spill.

Shah Alam district police chief assistant commissioner Sarudin Samah said the soap was believed to have spilled from a lorry on August 24 at the Kota Kemuning interchange before it entered KESAS heading towards Klang.

“Firefighters also took action by spreading sawdust along the affected stretch on the same day.

“However, heavy rain caused the remaining soap residue to produce a large amount of foam stretching for about 500 metres,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Sarudin said the highway concessionaire subsequently carried out a second round of cleaning, which was completed at 4.58 pm.

Earlier, several videos showing a white substance covering part of KESAS had circulated on social media, prompting speculation on whether it was snow.
