Malaysia is filled with places with scenic views, including the highways themselves. This has prompted some motorists to park their vehicles by the road, turn off the engine and start taking pictures of the views for their Gram.
Little do they know, their actions are not only causing trouble to other road users but also inviting danger onto everyone. Just yesterday (September 18), the recently-opened SUKE highway “welcomed” its first victim when a motorcycle rider collided with a Myvi that was parked in the emergency lane just for the sake of photography. A rider on his Suzuki motorcycle approached from the back and hit the Myvi that was parked in the emergency lane.
The incident took place around 2:45 pm near the Bukit Teratai toll plaza headed to Kuala Lumpur.
According to the police statement released by PDRM Ampang Jaya, the accident caused damage to both vehicles, and the unfortunate rider sustained injuries on his left foot. He was then brought to Hospital Ampang for further treatment.
The case is under investigation and a compound of RM300 will be issued to any reckless individuals who cause accidents on the road.
PDRM in Ampang Jaya also urged motorists NOT to stop on the emergency lanes without any valid reasons, and individuals who do so will be issued a compound.
SUKE highway has been open to public use since September 16 and it will be toll-free for a month. Regardless, we strongly remind the users NOT to park their vehicles by the road to take pictures as it will not only endanger yourself but also others.
