
Governor Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday said that National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was playing an important role in speeding up rural development and strengthening the agricultural economy of Himachal Pradesh. Chief General Manager of NABARD, Himachal Pradesh, Vivek Pathania along with other senior bank officers called on the Governor at the Lok Bhavan in Shimla. “Organisations like the NABARD are helping to empower farmers, encourage self-employment and improve the social and economic conditions of rural communities,” he added.
The delegation apprised the Governor about various initiatives and development activities being carried out by the bank in Himachal Pradesh, particularly in the fields of rural infrastructure, agriculture, watershed development, financial inclusion and livelihood promotion.
The Governor stressed the need for further promoting natural farming, skill development, rural entrepreneurship and women empowerment in the state. He said that stronger rural infrastructure and better livelihood opportunities are essential for balanced and sustainable development in the hill state.
He also stressed the importance of adopting innovative and technology-based methods in agriculture and related sectors to improve productivity and strengthen farmers’ income. He appreciated NABARD’s contribution to inclusive growth and expressed confidence that it would continue to play an important role in the overall development of the state.
