NABAWAN: A 10-door longhouse will be built here to accommodate 34 Heads of Households (KIR) from Kampung Saliman Pagalungan, affected by the recent landslide disaster which made their homes unsafe.
Nabawan Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohamed Yassin said the proposed suitable site for the construction would be discussed and coordinated with the Nabawan District Office and the Pagalungan Sub-District.
“For the first phase, we will request a longhouse containing 10 rooms to accommodate the families who have lost their homes,” he said after surveying the aftermath of the landslide in Kampung Saliman Pagalungan.
He said the relocation plan will be carried out in stages as other residents also wish to move due to the condition of the village area, which is facing the threat of landslides.
The villagers affected hope a settlement site can be identified soon as possible.
A resident, Mereem Sagintun, said they hope for a new settlement as their village is no longer safe.
The landslide occurred on March 28 and the families affected are taking shelter at the Temporary Relief Centre at the village’s Cultural Hall, while some are staying with relatives.
Ghani, who is also the Chairman of the Sabah State Land Development Board (LKTNS), was accompanied by Nabawan District Officer Marshal Anthony @ Idham, the Assistant District Officer of Pagalungan, Hasinin Kinsim, and the Community Development Leader (PPM) of Nabawan, Deckson Andipai.
Earlier, Ghani also hosted a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house event in collaboration with the AI-Bar Committee of Pagalungan for the first time in the Pagalungan Small Town, which was attended by people from various walks of life.
