Najib discloses RM4.49 mil assets in court filing, including six luxury cars

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Razak has assets worth RM4.49 million, which includes land and property in Pahang and Selangor, and five Mercedes-Benzes as well as a Bentley, court documents showed.

Malaysiakini reported that the documents were filed by the former prime minister in compliance with a Kuala Lumpur High Court order to disclose his assets due to a Mareva injunction against him by SRC International Sdn Bhd and subsidiary Gandingan Mentari.

The injunction is part of SRC International’s RM42 million civil suit against Najib over the money that went to his accounts, and its effect is to freeze the assets of a defendant while the case is ongoing. Najib may only withdraw not more than RM100,000 a month for the purpose of ordinary living and legal expenses.

The disclosure filing, confirmed by Najib’s lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, was made on July 20.

The asset with the largest value out of the RM4.49 million is RM2.52 million in Najib’s Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd holdings as of June 13.

The second-largest value asset is RM1.24 million, his current account balance with Affin Bank as of June 30.

As for land and property, Najib has seven in total in Pahang and Selangor, valued at RM460,987.

Besides the five Mercedes-Benzes and the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, other vehicle assets are a Honda EX5 motorcycle and a Kawasaki ZG motorcycle.

Najib, who was convicted over corruption charges related to the RM42 million he received from SRC International, was sentenced to 12 years in jail and fined RM210 million in July 2020. His appeal at the Federal Court is scheduled to be heard for 10 days from August 15. – The Vibes, August 2, 2022
