Najib Razak will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to a RM50 million fine and imposed conditions.
PETALING JAYA: The 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya was held today, with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim granting a conditional pardon to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Under the conditional pardon, Najib will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to him paying a fine of RM50 million.
He must comply with all conditions imposed under the conditional pardon.
Failure to comply with any of the conditions will result in the conditional pardon being revoked, after which Najib will immediately resume serving the remainder of his sentence in prison.
The matter was announced by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department in a statement today.
On Sept 11, the media reported that the Federal Territories Pardons Board had convened to consider, among other matters, Najib’s application for a pardon over his conviction in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
However, the board, chaired by Sultan Ibrahim, deferred Najib’s pardon application to its next meeting.
The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made at the 63rd meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.
On Feb 2, 2024, the Pardons Board Secretariat announced that Najib’s prison sentence had been reduced by 50%, from 12 years to six years, while his fine was reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million.
Najib, 72, is serving a reduced prison term following his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd. He was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million, and began serving his sentence at Kajang Prison on Aug 23, 2022.
In early 2024 the Pardons Board Secretariat announced that Najib’s prison sentence had been reduced by 50%, from 12 years to six years, while his fine was reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million.
