KAJANG: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak left the Kajang Prison Complex at about 2.37pm today in a silver Proton X70 SUV, following the issuance of a High Court order allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
His lawyer, Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, confirmed that the court had issued the order after UMNO settled Najib’s RM50 million fine.
“What I can confirm at this stage is that UMNO has paid the RM50 million to the High Court,” he told reporters.
“As a result, pursuant to the royal order, the court has issued the house arrest order, which we have received.
“There are still further processes that need to be completed, so I will not be taking any questions for now. I am now heading to Kajang Prison to deliver the order.”
Farhan arrived at the prison complex at about 2.15pm in a white Audi, before Najib was seen leaving the facility 22 minutes later.
The silver SUV was escorted out of the prison grounds under tight security.
It was not immediately known where Najib was headed, including whether he was being taken to his residence in Jalan Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur, where he is expected to serve the remainder of his sentence.
Earlier, UMNO confirmed that it had paid the RM50 million fine imposed on its former president after collecting sufficient contributions through its Najib Razak Solidarity Fund, which was launched on Sept 18.
Najib is serving a prison sentence following his conviction on seven charges involving the misappropriation of RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
In 2024, the Pardons Board reduced his 12-year prison term to six years and lowered his fine from RM210 million to RM50 million.
The King, Sultan Ibrahim, subsequently granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the fine and compliance with other stipulated conditions.
