Najib pardon: Anwar orders AG to seek audience with King

SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 - Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar to seek an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, immediately to clarify issues surrounding the conditional pardon order involving former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Bernama reported the prime minister as saying that this was necessary to explain the legal constraints concerning the remainder of Najib’s prison sentence in the SRC International case, as well as the implications for his separate 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.

“I have asked the Attorney-General to seek an audience with His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong immediately, to respectfully explain why the decision was accepted in the SRC case, but there are complications because it also involves a second case, the 1MDB case.”

He said this to reporters after launching the 2026 National Family Month celebration at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC) here today.

Also present were the prime minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Bandar Tun Razak MP; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; her deputy Lim Hui Ying; and state executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari.

Later in a statement, Anwar said Dusuki had sought an audience with His Majesty to apologise and express his commitment to complying with the King’s decree concerning the conditional pardon granted to Najib.

“The Attorney-General will also explain the legal questions arising from the High Court’s discharge order following the payment of the RM50 million fine, which must be determined by the court as they affect the commencement date of the prison sentence in the 1MDB case.”
