MACC Chief Commissioner says the status of the 1MDB case involving Najib Razak remains unchanged, adding that each case must be handled separately.
KAJANG: The status of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case involving Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak remains unchanged following his conditional pardon, said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman.
He said each case must be handled separately based on the issues and investigations involved.
“For our part, cases that are still pending will continue as usual. The status quo remains,” he told a press conference here today.
He said this when asked whether the conditional pardon granted to the former prime minister would have any impact on the ongoing 1MDB case and appeal.
Abd Halim said one case could not simply be equated with another, as each investigation involved different allegations and issues.
“We need to understand that each case is different. They cannot be handled as if they were the same case, as each investigation is focused on what is being investigated, whether it concerns specific issues raised or complaints received,” he said.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has consented to grant Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
The Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara yesterday.
