KUALA LUMPUR — Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is to pay the RM50 million fine in order to be transferred to house arrest at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar’s Office.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said the fine is to be paid here as his case was filed and heard at this court.
However, Najib has yet to pay the fine, Dusuki said when contacted by the media today, Bernama reports.
“As of now, Datuk Seri Najib’s family has not paid the fine. Once payment is made, I cannot say exactly when Datuk Seri Najib will be brought home, as the process may take some time.”
Dusuki said the Prison Department would be responsible for issuing procedures for the implementation of Najib’s house arrest.
A Bernama check at the Kajang Prison today found no activity involving Najib, who is the former Pekan Member of Parliament.
The 73-year-old former prime minister has been serving his sentence at the Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, following his conviction for misappropriating RM42 million belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
On Sept 18, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence for the SRC International case under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.
The arrangement is subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and compliance with the stipulated conditions. — September 21, 2026
