Selangor UMNO has stressed that the legal proceedings involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak have not reached a final conclusion, noting that avenues for appeal remain open under Malaysian law. The state party said public reactions to recent court decisions should remain measured while the judicial process continues.

In a statement issued in Shah Alam on 24 December 2025, Selangor UMNO said any satirical or celebratory remarks made at this stage were inappropriate, as Najib still retains the right to challenge the outcome through the appellate courts. The party argued that the matter extends beyond the fate of an individual and touches on broader constitutional issues, particularly the status and interpretation of the Titah Addendum linked to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong within Malaysia’s constitutional monarchy framework.

The state chapter also criticised remarks made by the Puchong Member of Parliament, describing them as politically uncivil and constitutionally insensitive, especially given her role as a representative within the Unity Government. Selangor UMNO said such conduct risked undermining political decorum and harmony at a time when restraint was needed.

In this context, Selangor UMNO defended the decision by its youth wing to submit a memorandum calling for a public apology and the removal of the disputed remarks. The party said the action was principled, peaceful and aimed at safeguarding national institutions. It rejected claims by certain quarters that the memorandum amounted to intimidation or a publicity stunt, emphasising that peaceful representations at an elected representative’s service centre were a legitimate and democratic form of expression.

Selangor UMNO further contrasted its approach with what it described as politics of ridicule, stating that the party had never celebrated the electoral losses of political opponents, including during recent state elections in Sabah. This, it said, demonstrated the difference between civil political engagement and provocative behaviour.

The party urged the Selangor DAP leadership, particularly the Puchong MP, to de-escalate tensions by ending satirical political messaging, withdrawing the contentious remarks and issuing a public apology to help restore political harmony within the Unity Government.

Selangor UMNO reaffirmed its commitment to defending political etiquette, constitutional sovereignty and respect for the institution of the Malay Rulers, adding that it would continue to speak out against any actions perceived as undermining these principles.
