KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Najib, son of former Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, narrowly won the race for the Langkawi division chief post after polls concluded today.
In the 12-vote majority, Nazifuddin garnered 246 votes compared with his contender’s 234, said party sources.
Often labelled an outsider during his campaign, Nazifuddin centred his election message on the need for change and “rejuvenation” for the Langkawi chapter.
Nazifuddin had also contested for the party’s deputy Youth chief post but lost.
In similar fashion, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s political secretary, Datuk Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii won the Seputeh division chief post with a huge majority, garnering 206 votes compared with his contender’s 55, reported Malaysiakini.
Razlan is also contesting for a seat on the Umno Supreme Council.
The unofficial results for the Supreme Council, deputy permanent chairman, permanent chairman, and three vice-presidents are trickling in this evening.
Official results are expected to be announced in the next few days, pending any objections from party divisions. – The Vibes, March 18, 2023
