Najib solidarity fund reaches RM1 million

Kuala Lumpur: The Tabung Solidariti Najib Razak has collected RM1 million as of 9.30am on Saturday, a day after it was launched to help former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak pay a RM50 million fine.

Umno Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced the figure in a Facebook post and urged supporters to continue contributing, including donations as low as RM10.

The fund had collected RM634,562.02 within the first three hours of its launch on Friday, with Asyraf saying many contributions were in amounts of RM10 and RM50.

Umno launched the fund following the conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his SRC International sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine and other stipulated conditions.

Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said contributions were open to party leaders, members and supporters as well as others wishing to contribute voluntarily, with the initiative to be conducted transparently and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
