Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has taken a cheeky jab at Anwar Ibrahim after the latter was spotted using a BMW 7 Series as a temporary official vehicle.
The remark came after photos of Anwar arriving at an event in the black luxury sedan went viral on social media, sparking public discussion over whether it was a newly purchased official car.
Najib, however, appeared to respond in his own way.
Najib posts photo with Proton Perdana
In a Facebook post, Najib uploaded a photo of himself standing beside a Proton Perdana, Malaysia’s national car, while holding a small Jalur Gemilang attached to the side mirror.
His caption was short and simple: “Using a Proton Perdana is quite okay too.”

Najib’s Facebook post has since gained traction on social media, racking up 56.2K reactions, 4.1K comments, and 1.7K shares as of writing.
The post drew plenty of reactions from netizens, with many appearing amused by Najib’s jab, leaving remarks like “Steady Bossku” and “Mantap Bossku”.

Some of them were expressing that they miss the former prime minister.

On the other hand, some netizens took a sarcastic swipe, linking it to his 1MDB cases.

‘Some of you still remember!’
In another Facebook post, Najib also reacted to netizens who remembered the number plates of the Proton Perdana cars he used back then.
Uiish, you guys. Some of you still remember the old plate numbers.
Najib said he noticed comments mentioning that “Bossku” used to ride in a Perdana with the number plate W 11 N, adding that it was true.

Before that, he said he had used another Perdana with the number plate WRX 11.

According to him, the car was used until its mileage became very high, and it had become rather old.
“The car was already worn out, with all kinds of noises, but it was still okay to keep using it. After that, only then did we change to a new car
But the aircond was powerful. Those who have used Proton would know.”
PMO clarifies BMW’s temporary use
The remark came after Anwar was recently seen arriving at an event in a black BMW 7 Series, which quickly drew attention on social media.
Photos of the car were widely circulated, with some netizens questioning whether it was a new official vehicle.

However, the Prime Minister’s Office later clarified that the BMW 7 Series was not a newly purchased official car for Anwar.
Instead, it said the vehicle is an existing asset belonging to the Ceremonial and International Conference Secretariat, also known as BIUPA, under the Prime Minister’s Department.
According to the statement, the vehicle is usually prepared for official national needs, especially for visiting heads of state and heads of government at the level of president or prime minister during official visits to Malaysia.
The PMO said this is in line with international protocol and security requirements.
It also explained that the vehicle meets specific safety specifications, including protection against high-calibre ballistic threats, explosions, and modern security risks such as drone threats.
The vehicle was chosen for Anwar’s temporary use following advice and a security assessment by the Royal Malaysia Police.
This was because the Prime Minister’s official vehicle, which was granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, is currently undergoing maintenance.
