FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has expressed his gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for the mercy granted to him under a conditional pardon.
According to a statement by his counsel, Shafee & Co, Najib also thanked Umno leaders and members for their support following the Pardons Board decision.
“Our client is grateful to His Majesty the King for the mercy shown and wishes to express his appreciation to all leaders and members of Umno for their support,” the law firm said.
The statement said Najib was still seeking advice and considering his options on how to meet the RM50 million fine imposed as a condition of the pardon.
Until the fine is paid, Najib will remain in Kajang Prison, while a “significant part” of his assets, bank accounts and properties remains frozen by the authorities, the firm said.
“In those circumstances, our client is presently taking advice and considering his options as to how best to give effect to the condition,” the statement read.
Najib and his legal team are also studying the undisclosed terms of the conditional pardon, it said.
Since the pardon was announced, Umno has launched a donation drive to help its former president pay the fine.
“Our client thanks his family, his friends and all those who have kept him in their prayers and asks that his family’s privacy be respected,” Shafee & Co said, adding that the firm would not comment further for now. - September 20, 2026
